Members of the Project team regularly give seminar and conference papers presenting research based on CCEd, as well as talks about the nature of the Project.   • Women’s Committee of the Economic History Society Annual Workshop, ‘Gender and Career’, Institute of Historical Research, 1 November 2008The Project directors delivered a keynote lecture on ‘Clerical Dynasties and Mobility: Some perspectives on the Careers of Clergymen in the Early Modern Period’, reflecting on the impact of gender issues on those careers.
  • Early Modern Britain Seminar, Merton College, Oxford, 30 October 2008Stephen Taylor and Kenneth Fincham delivered a paper on ‘Episcopalian conformity and nonconformity 1646–1660’, based on research using the CCEd.
  • CCEd presentation at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA, 17 September 2008Arthur Burns presented the CCEd to an audience of experts in the Digital Humanities at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
  • Anglican Clergy 1540–1835: Charting the Dynamics of an Early Modern Profession in the Clergy of the Church of England Database, 20–1 June 2008On Friday–Saturday 20–1 June 2008 a two-day conference was held at the Institute of Historical Research, London under the auspices of the CCEd project. Day One: ‘Clerical Cohorts: Prosopographical Insights’, explored the potential of CCEd for writing the collective history of the clergy through a variety of case studies. The second day ‘Clerical ancestors and local stories’, aimed primarily at genealogists, archivists and local historians, explored the usefulness of the CCEd for their researches.

  • Salisbury Cathedral 750: 1258–2008, 28 March 2008Arthur Burns talked about Salisbury cathedral and the diocese in the late Hanoverian period, drawing on the materials available in CCEd, at a conference on ‘Salisbury Cathedral 750: 1258–2008’ on 28 March 2008.
  • Historical Association, Norwich Branch, 9 February 2008Arthur Burns gave a talk on the Clergy Database and its value for research on the clergy and church in the localities at the Norwich branch of the Historical Association on 9 February 2008.
  • In Further Celebration of the Clergy of the Church of England Database Project, 20 October 2007On Saturday 20 October 2007 a one day conference was held under the auspices of the Chichester Centre for Ecclesiastical Studies in collaboration with CCEd. This explored the progress of the Project, some of the uses to which its materials can be put, and its future.

  • Manchester conference, 27 October 2006On 27 October 2006 a conference took place on ‘The northern diocese in the CCEd’. The event was attended by a large audience of academics and other historians. A brief report on the conference is available. We have since published Richard Clark’s paper in CCEd Research Online .
