b) letter 5/3/1768 Joseph Hill to the Bishop, reasons for resignation: patron has two sons, 'ye Elder some time ago having displeas'd his Father by marrying without his consent ye Living was then intended for ye second Son now at Oxford, but I have now ye satisfaction to find ye Father reconcil'd to his Elder Son, & dispos'd to present him; & that ye second Son is also desirous that his Brother, for whom ye Living was first intended, shoud be presented'; Hill self 'entirely disabled from doing any service in ye Church ever since Michaelmas last', therefore committed care of Church to proposed incumbent, 'not without hopes of seeing a Reconciliation', as he is well respected and will reside in the parish if instituted |
