| Comment | Surname probably Hobbes. The document has been badly faded and damaged at this point , making the entry very hard to read. However, Phillipps' Wiltshire instittuions does confirm that a 'Nicholaus Hobbes' was replaced as vicar of Cheryngton in 1554, so it seems likely that this is correct. (Vol I p216). Location is now called 'Chirton'. |
