CommentThis entry (fo. 10 verso) is quite full with details about Dale's letter of ordination from the bishop of Killala and his subscription in both Latin and English. The fuller English section reads: 'I doe hereby certifye that one Mr Joseph Dale came to Killala in September last and applyed to me for Deacons Orders. He told me he expected immediate preferment from the Bishop of Meath who was at that time sick and could not ordain him and that the Bishop of Chester was then in London and was not expected in his Diocess for some time which might hazard this preferment. He shew'd me a Testimoniall from his College of his good behaviour and learning as also an ample certificate of his good life and Conversation signed by many Gentlemen and gave me a Letter from a good freind of mine who I am sure loves the Church too well to recommend an ill man to the service of it wherefore finding him upon his Examination to be qualifyed I admitted him unto the order of Deacons on the 21st of Sept 1712.
