CommentThe year of ordination appears to be 1627, but is only given in the source as 'ano nono consecracionius' [abbreviated]. As it mentions a Bishop John of Oxford as the ordaining bishop and taking into account the date of Sampson's ordination as priest (on 21/12/1628), it seems likely that the phase refers to the ninth year that John Howson was Bishop of Oxford. Howson was nominated on 04/08/1618, but not consecrated until 09/05/1619, which would mean that early march 1627 would have been regarded as being within the ninth year.[Howson's name and dates taken from E. B. Fryde, D. E .Greenway et. al. eds. , Handbook of British Chronology third edition. (London, 1986)
