Comment | 187r Emott in signature, though Emo in text (same hand). Attempt to change first letter of place name look uncertain: could be W or N, but other evidence confirms as Mert[on]. Foster, Al. Ox. confirms identification of clergyman as Bryan Emott. Comparison with April 1631 liber cleri (i.e. a few months before this subscription) points to this being what appears there to be Mr Enmatt (or Emmatt), curate of Marton (i.e. Merton). |
