After the consecration of St Paul's Ramsey as a daughter church of Maughold, Ballure chapel became simply a chapel of ease, and quickly became dilapidated until restored in 1851, when the dedication was changed to St Catherine's (Gelling, 1998: 59). It was built on the site of an old Treen chapel and a burial is recorded in 1611. Under Bishop Wilson it was used as a school, the first ordained chaplain being appointed in 1747. (Gelling: 19)
