When in 1821 the governors [of Highgate School] promoted a private Bill for a larger chapel, the resulting controversy ended in a judgement that the chapel had not been intended for general use. It was accordingly replaced in 1832 by a new church, which also served the school until 1867 (fn. 43) and in 1834 was assigned a consolidated chapelry from Hornsey and St. Pancras parishes.
