Neither VCH nor Robson, Education in Cheshire, mention this as a grammar school, which is taken from how it is named in ssome records. Date of foundation uncertain from Gastrell, though a new schoolhouse was built in 1715, and it was clearly in existence by 1665. The school was free to all the parish of Warmingham, and so it has been assumed that all svchoolmasters for warmingham were schoolmasters at Elton school. Gastrell, Notitia Cestrienses, I.262.
