According to VCH, "It was probably desecrated early in the seventeenth century, as in 1639 Robert Harward, who was at this time lord of the manor of Sutton Scotney, and Ambrose Beach were referred to the bishop of Winchester to inquire as to who was answerable for the profanation of the chapel and to report thereon to the Court of High Commission."
