It was founded, built and part-endowed by John Jackson of Holeslack, 1726-1727 and consecrated in 1745. In 1778-9 divine service was held there twice in summer; catechisdm expounded; Holy Sacrament 4 times a year; 23 communicants at Easter; Curate nominated by the Vicar of Kendal. Of Jackson's two endowments, the first gave an estate towards a yearly stipend towards 'a teaching curate: so as a chapel, with vestry or school-houses annexed, should be erected, and a chapel yard sufficiently fenced out; with all ornaments and conveniences belonging to the same. All which was accordingly effected, by contribution of the inhabitants, and his own further donation'. Afterwards he have another estate, on condition the inhabitants raised £100 towards obtaining an augmenttation from the governors of Queen Anne's Bounty, whereof £44/12/- was subscribed by the inhabitants and the rest by Mr matson the curate.
