Date of Foundation unknown. In the early 1720s Bishop Gastrell that there was a school-house in Culcheth on the common, built by John Guest of Abram. Culcheth is in Newchurch chapelry. Gastrell, Notitia Cestrensienses, II.ii, Chetham Soc, vol. 21 (1850), 270. VCH, Lancs, II, 624 gives a further account of the school, and of a 1727 bequest to the school as Twiss Green school, within Culcheth.
