Assistant C. to William Richardson, a leading evangelist in York, until 1802. R. of St Margaret-in-Walmgate, and R. of St Crux-in-Fosgate, York, 1802-38. Married, 1792, Elizabeth Stoddart, of Reeth, Yorks., and had twelve children, his eight sons being all over 6 feet in height. Author, The True Churchman Ascertained, an Apology for Evangelical Ministers. Died July 17, 1838, at York; buried in the chancel of St Crux.
