Author of upwards of seventy published works; a volume of poems, The Widow of Nain and other poems, as early as 1817 had a great success and was followed by others, including The Outlaw of Taurus, and The Tragedies of Sophocles, translated into English verse, a work which brought his name into general notice; his principal publications were sermons and doctrinal works, which included Access to God, five discourses preached before the University in 1832, and a similar series published in 1836. A High Church evangelical of the old school. Died May 14, 1870, at Amen Court, St Paul's, London. Father of Thomas P. (1841), Cecil C. M (1861), and Lawford W. T. (1845).
