A learned theologian and a skilled geologist; translated the Homilies of St John Chrysostom on the Statues, for Pusey's ‘Library of the Fathers’; a frequent contributor of articles to the Transactions of the Geological Society; wrote for the Saturday Review. Author, The Christian Naturalist; Lives of Men of Great Æras, etc. Died Aug. 3, 1865, aged 65, at Bratton Clovelly. (Peile, II. 398; D.N.B.)
