R. of Gt Livermere, Suffolk, 1631. Went to New England, with a company of settlers to colonize Piseataqua (Dover), N.H., being engaged as minister for the plantation, 1633. Afterwards went to Boston; admitted to the Church there, Aug. 9, 1635. Assisted the Rev. Ralph Partridge (of Trinity) at Duxbury, Mass., c. 1637-9. First pastor of Sandwich, Mass., 1639-53. Removed to Long Island and served as minister at Oyster Bay, c. 1653-c. 58; then at Huntingdon for about ten years. Finally settled in Newtown, L.I., 1669; pastor there, till 1677.
