Michs. 1782, as Brown; Scholar, 1783; B.A. (8th Wrangler) 1786; M.A. 1789; B.D. 1796; D.D. 1808. Fellow, 1791. Held various College Offices. Master, 1808-14. Vice-Chancellor, 1811. [For an account of his career at Cambridge, see Gunning, II. 226-64.] Ord. deacon (Norwich) Sept. 23, 1787; priest, Mar. 29, 1789. Perhaps R. of Snoring, Norfolk, 1789-91. C. of Gt St Andrew's, Cambridge, 1792-6. P.C. of Seaton Ross, Yorks., 1794-. R. of Beerferris, 1797-8 (holding it for his pupil, Henry L. Hobart, who was under the required age). Much given to practical jokes and unpopular in the University. Lived chiefly at Bourn, Cambs., and occupied himself in the enclosure of the parish.
