Pamphlets No. 3 and 4 of the Doynton Local History Group give information on this man and his family; he remained resident in the parish of Doynton until his death aged 70 in 1677; during the Commonwealth he worked amicably with non-conformist Thomas Hughes appointed as 'Register'; he and his wife, Rebecca, had 5 children at Doynton; the eldest surviving, Beloved Wilkes, formed the Wilkes Charity placing the Wilkes farm (for which Robert Wilkes had started buying land in 1655) in Trust.
