Clark: ordained priest by George Lloyd, bishop of Chester 1605-14; surrogate for the vicar-general in the Derby court; in the metropolitical visitation of 1635 mentioned as a surrogate of the archdeacon of Derby and accused of extortion, performing clandestine marriages and of being no graduate; he was suspended and forbidden the further execution of ecclesiastical justice. Under the year 1646 the parish register records that he was 'iniquitiously deposed'; will 21/01/1642, inv 05/02/1647. After Cooke's ejection, a Mr Bakwell was appointed by the corporation [Thomas Bakewell was vicar of St Werburgh Derby 1647-57] according to an 18thc report.
