Assistant Master at a school in Soho Square (i.e. of his father-in-law, William Clare). Ordained, c. 1743. Head Master of Tonbridge School, 1743-61. M.A. (Lambeth) 1747. Killed by a fall from his horse, Apr. 15, 1761, aged 40. Buried at Tonbridge. M.I. Included by Dr Johnson amongst his poets. (D.N.B.)
