1705 Register of Orders (Cheshire RO, EDV 2/13) records that he was a French convert from Catholicism. He was Deacon, 'antea Diaconus Calconiens', in the Augustian order at the monastery of St Mary Magdalen, Chateaudun. He was ordained priest on 1 April 1670 by Ferdinand de Neville (Neuille?), by the grace of God and apostolic authority Bishop of Chartres.
