Married, July 25, 1825, at St Paul's Cray, Charlotte Dorothea, dau. of James Farish. One of the original members (and sometime President) of the Microscopical Society. Discovered a means of separating heat-rays from those of light, and effected several improvements in photographic methods. Invented ‘Reade's Kettledrum,’ a hemispherical condenser for the microscope.
