Michs. 1810; Scholar; B.A. 1814; M.A. 1817. C. of Broxbourne, Herts., 1833-42. Married Ann, dau. of John Shakespear, and had issue. Author, A Defence of the Clergy of the Church of England; A History of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham; Order against Anarchy; Researches into the Ecclesiastical and Political State of Ancient Britain under the Roman Emperors, etc. Famous in his family for his invention and narration of fairy tales.
