A first-rate scholar; upon his premature death, a friend wrote to his brother, Charles, ‘what a Marcellus in letters we have lost.’ Author, Greek Grammar of Matthiae, translated from the German; had also projected a Greek-English Lexicon. Died Oct. 9, 1816, at Cambridge, of a fever contracted in Switzerland. Buried in Emmanuel Chapel. M.I. there, and a monument, executed by Chantrey, in St James's, Bury. Brother of Charles J.
