Schools, Westminster and Marylebone (Mr Fountaine). ' Matric. Michs. 1753; B.A. 1757. Ord. priest (London), Sept. 23, 1759. C. of Enford, Wilts., of Hythe, Colchester, and of Ockley, Surrey. Chaplain to the Poultry-Compter, 1761. Lecturer in the parishes of St George's, Botolph Lane and St Botolph's, Billingsgate. Formed an academy for teaching oratory 'mechanically'; 1762. Studied medicine, assuming the title of 'doctor'; Abridged and printed sermons of eminent divines for the use of the clergy. Established a lucrative printing and bookselling trade. Married (1) Oct. 10, 1764, Elizabeth, dau. of James Burns of St Paul's, Covent Garden; married again twice.
