Fletcher was appointed chaplain of the king's ships at Portsmouth on 11 Nov. 1634, for which he obtained a testimonial from his diocesan, Bishop Curle of Winchester (CSPD 1634-4, p. 287; CSPD Addenda 1625-49, p. 483).
