Gunning speaks of him as ‘an admirable classic and particularly well versed in modern languages, at that time a very rare accomplishment in the University’; he also tells a story proving him to have been ‘a notorious gourmand.’ Author, Poems on various occasions with Translations from Authors in different languages.
