Travelled extensively, and wrote diaries of his journeys which are in the College library. Mentioned by Dorothy Wordsworth who travelled in a coach with him from Leicester to Cambridge in 1810. Died Apr. 9, 1840, in his College rooms, and buried in the (old) ante-chapel. Left £1000 to the University to increase the stipend of the Professor of Arabic, and some Turkish MSS.; to the College he bequeathed £1000 and a number of Oriental books. (St John's Coll.
