His actions as Dean, in relation to the property of the Chapter, occasioned disputes and subsequent litigation when proceedings in the Visitatorial Court of the Archbishop of York resulted in a judgment by which he was deprived and deposed...from his place of Dean. An appeal to the Court of Queen's Bench, though not securing an actual reversal of the judgment, prohibited it from being carried into effect. Married (1) Elizabeth, dau. of Sir Robert Peel, Bart., Dec. 30, 1805; (2) Margaret Emma, dau. of Lieut.-Col. Pearse, of Hatley St George, Cambs., Sept. 14, 1830. Author, miscellaneous.
