Much uncertainty in university records about this man.
He could be of Oxon.; ST JOHN'S COLLEGE matric. 16 Nov. 1621 aged 17; BA EXETER 7 Dec. 1623; MA ST JOHN's 6 July 1626 as Podder.
Or he could be of Wilts., pleb., QUEENS matric. 21 Nov. 1628 aged 16, BA 10 May 1631; MA 23 Jan. 1633/4; perhaps R of Collington, Herefs. 1634 and of Nympsfield 1641.
(Venn also records a man of this name holding parishes in Lancashire as a prebendary of Louth dying in 1667 which seems inappropriate given dates of birth).
However, the Biog. Reg. of St John's College Oxford 1555-1660 claims the former as possibly R of Nympsfield 1640; R of Sundridge Kent until sequestered; in Civil War served with royal army to the last; after Restoration was Prebendary of Lincoln following a petition from 1660 to 1667.
Gloucestershire archives holds an instrument of TPs ejection from Nympsfield; the incumbent of Sundridge at about this time was appointed by Parliament, TP presumably having been ejected from there. Fasti confirms that TP was prebendary of Louth 1660-1667. Therefore it may be assumed that this Thomas Potter is the St John's/Exeter graduate whose year of birth also fits better, and the other TP has been wrongly allocated the suggestion of Nympsfield.
As to where the DD was awarded with which TP is credited in the Lincoln no evidence yet found.
See CCEd ID 118461 for Thomas Potter, rector of Collington which is kept separate in view of probably confusion in Foster.
