His descendant, Dr Liz Oliver, has provided additional family information. He was ordained at the age of 41. He was born in 1756, being baptised at St Peter's Mansfield on 5 September 1756, the son of William and Mary Oliver. He married Elizabeth Whitehead at St James Papplewick, Nottingham, on 17 February 1782. He was the father of George Oliver [CCE71837], contrary to VENN, who posits a relationship with Samuel Oliver CCE71901.
She also informs us that Samuel was schoolmaster at Lutterworth from 1788 when he was appointed headmaster by the earl of Denbigh; he was running his own school there in 1791 (Leics. Jl/Nottingham Jl adverts). The school closed in 1798 and was reopened at Gotham nr Ruddington
Dr Oliver confirms that the SO at Whaplode is indeed the same person from family correspondence; she also has established that he departed this position in 1842 when a new vicar dismissed him, leaving him homeless until a fried helped him acquire a rectory at Lambley, Notts, where he died on 9 Aug 1847
