Assisted in extinguishing a serious fire; the exertions led to a breakdown in health followed by a paralytic stroke. Returned to England for treatment in Dec. 1816. but never recovered his health and resigned 1824. Lived subsequently in retirement at Hampton, Middlesex. Married and had issue. Author of correspondence on the subject of Roman Catholic Missionaries. Died Dec. 23, 1828, at Hampton; buried at Esher
