With great abilities, deep learning, and a fascinating presence which might have entitled him to look forward to the highest posts in Cambridge and the Church, he preferred in 1832 to accept the charge of a country living where he endeared himself to the hearts of his people. R. of Newton, Suffolk, 1832-91. Married, Sept. 3, 1833, at Handsworth, Susanna, dau. of J. L. Moilliet, of Hamstead Hall, Staffs. Author, Seven Letters on National Religion addressed to the Rev. Henry Melvill; The Truths hidden by the False Witness of Convocation; An Inquiry into Catholic Truths hidden in the Creed of Rome; Auricular Confession; etc. Died July 21, 1891, aged 93.
