At Charterhouse with Thackeray (whose nose he broke in a fight) and a friend of Tennyson. A character of extraordinary force and charm. Wrote the first leading article for the Saturday Review, and for nearly 30 years contributed anonymous weekly articles. He probably did more than any other writer of his time to establish and maintain the best and strongest current style and the highest type of political thought, in journalism. Compiled the summary of events in The Times on the last day of each year. High Sheriff of Radnor, 1884. Died Oct. 6, 1888. Brother of Joseph H.(1832) and Richard L. (1826) (CCEd ID 174294. (Eton Sch.
