R. of Layham, Suffolk, 1836-84. Chairman of Hadleigh bench of magistrates. Died Sept. 4, 1884, at Layham rectory. Gave £1000 to found the Hughes prize at St John's, 1876, and bequeathed 300 of his best books to the College Library. Brother of John H. (1813) and George H. (1818).
