Usher at Westminster School, 1770-88; such a slack disciplinarian that the boys in his form used to stick his wig full of paper darts in school (Southey's Life and Correspondence, I. 135-6). Kept a small boardinghouse on the Terrace in Dean's Yard, Westminster, which was subsequently amalgamated with Farren's, whose owner, Mrs Farren, he married, May 1, 1788.
