Venn: adm. pens. CHRISTS Cambridge, aged 18, 3 May 1775; son of John (1743) M.D. (and of Mary, dau. of Thomas Russell, ironmonger of Norwich). Born Norwich, School Eton; m. Michs 1775; scholar 1775; BA 1779; ord. d. Norwich 20 Feb. 1780; ord. priest, Gloucester (litt. dim. Norwich) 23 Dec. 1781; R. Scarning, Norfolk 1789-1808; R. Burlingham St Andrew & St Peter 1789 (patron his father); destroyed the oak benches in the nave and put two pews in the chancel. Married Elizabeth Bulirch of Shipdam; two months after her death married his cook - for which parishioners hooted him. Removed to Norwich where he put brass plate over his door 'Rector of Scarning'.
