Selected as a naval chaplain in 1626 and served on the 'Vanguard' (BL, Add. MS 37816, fo. 143v; TNA, SP 16/36/10); served on the 'Red Lion' as one of two naval chaplains on the Re expedition of 1627 (CSPD 1627-8, p. 507; 1628-9, p. 40); listed as preacher on the 'Convertive' in 1632, on the 'Charles' in 1634, and again on the 'Vanguard' in 1635 (National Maritime Museum, JOD/1/1); left £50 in 1640 in the will of Sir John Pennington (BL, Egerton MS 2533, fo. 97).
