VENN: matric. as "a poor scholar" from KING'S 21 Mar. 1752; born 26 Feb. 1733/4; school Merchant Taylors; BA 1756; MA 1759: DD 1789; V of Shepherdswell (or Sibertwold) Kent, 1774-82; lecturer St Dionis Backchurch, London; R Brantham, Suffolk 1782-1819 and of Great Wenham until 1819; disappears from Clerical Guide 1822. (Hasted IV, 8; G. Mag 1782, 264)
See also G. Mag. Vol. 89, Pt I, p 484 on his death in 1819 aged 86. States he was also chaplain in ordinary to the king and chaplain of the chapel royal.
His father was John R[h]udd[e], cler. (CCEd ID 51429) (vicar of Portisham, Dorset 1748-78) who had been a non-conformist minister (Trinitarian) until being ordained as an Anglican around the time Durand was born.
See Martin Gayford "Constable in Love; Love, Landscape, Money and the Making of a Great Painter", Penguin, 2009 for fascinating detail of Durand Rhudde as vicar of East Bergholt - he was grandfather of the young woman with whom Constable was in love. Gives some detail of an arrogant, self-made man
