Ord. deacon (Bristol) Nov. 19, 1808. Previously Minister of the Congregationalist Chapel at Stockport, Cheshire, 1793-1801. P.C. of St Chad's, Stafford, 1816-45. P.C. of Castle Church, Stafford, 1820-45; the rebuilding of the nave and chancel of Castle Church was completed in 1845 (architect, Sir G. Gilbert Scott). Married (1) Mary, dau. of Dr John Warren, Archdeacon of Worcester; (2) Beatrice, who died in 1855. (Another wife, Elizabeth Ryle, is given in Heginbotham, Stockport, II. 37.) A man of great stature and bulksaid to have been able to eat a leg of mutton at a sitting. Died Nov. 24, 1845, aged 83, according to Davy; but in Heginbotham, Stockport, II. 37, the date of his death is given as occurring on Jan. 6, 1846. Father of James (1807). (Peile, II. 357; E.
