Michs. 1822; B.A. 1828; M.A. 1832. Ord. deacon (York) July 26, 1829; priest, July 18, 1830; C. of Mansfield, Notts. C. of St Sepulchre's, Newgate Street, London; the cholera epidemic seriously affected his health and left him with a nervous stammer which obliged him to give up his curacy. Took pupils at Goring, Oxon., 1843-54, and thereafter at Wadhurst, Sussex, becoming a very successful tutor for the public schools, particularly Eton. Married, 1836, Eulalia, dau. of Charles Gray, and had issue, 9 sons. Died Feb. 21, 1894, at Wadhurst. Father of the next and of Arthur (1869). (E. G.
