This man is very difficult to identify in the various spellings of surname. It may be possible to link him with the description in Foster: Fellow of ALL SOULS' COLLEGE 1543; BA 14 Dec. (?fellow CORPUS CHRISTI COLLEGE 1547; from Gloucester); one of these names V of Tilehurst, Berks, 1561; see Foster Ind. Eccles. & OHS i, 207
The York and Hereford appointments are mentioned in 'The Reformation of Cathedrals: Cathedrals in English Society', by Stanford E. Lehmberg, p. 277.
'The History of the town and borough of Reading in Berkshire', by John Doran, 1835, (together with many entries in various editions of Foxe's Book of Martyrs) mention that a Thomas Thackham was a notorious headmaster of Reading School in the 1550s and was vicar at St Lawrence, Reading, in 1553 (near Tilehurst); and that he was in the 1560s also minister of a church in Northamptonshire; hence the linking of these appointments below, but they may need further checking if possible.
There are other mentions of this name and similar which could also be the same man; for instance Thackham, ID 59593 from 1560 to his death in 1593 at parishes in Norwich,, Salisbury, and Bath and Wells (Doran's account mentions evidence that he spoke of travelling weekly to Salisbury in the 1560s); also Thackham ID 165321 at Hawkesbury, Gloucs, 1567 (or 1570) to 1576, picking up Foster's suggestion that he came from Gloucester, and also that one of the records describes him as being 'also a preacher'; another possibility is ID 152709, at Clifton and Clifton Reyes (called dom. and MA) in Bucks. 1573-1585; also Thaccham (not yet personified resigning at Tilehurst in 1567; some possibility as Thaccane ordained priest as MA by Salisbury for Lincoln in 1552 - ID 59593
