According to The History & Topography of the Parish of Kirkburton & the Graveship of Holme, including Holmfirth, in the County of York by Henry James Moorhouse (1861) pp. 23-4, Whitaker, a strong Royalist, was removed from the living of Kirkburton in early 1643, and was taken captive in January 1644 and imprisoned in Manchester, where he shortly died.
