VENN
Adm. pens. at ST JOHN'S, Oct. 17, 1781. Of Kent. [Younger s. of the Rev. Henry (1737), V. of Thornham and Sandhurst, and Elizabeth, dau. of Stephen Sevier, of Bodiam. Bapt. Jan. 20, 1757, at Sandhurst.] No residence recorded. Ord. deacon (Chester, Litt. dim. from Canterbury as literate person, student of St John's) Feb. 22, 1782; priest (Exeter) Mar. 22, 1782. V. of Thornham and R. of Allingham, 1782-1829. P.C. of Bredhurst, 1802-29. It was probably due to some friendly arrangement with the Archbishop of Canterbury that the presentation of the living (which had been held by his grandfather and by his father, who died in 1781) was allowed to lapse with the understanding that John Hodson should be quickly ordained and succeed to Thornham. Married Henrietta Crunden. Died Oct. 1829. (St John's Coll. Adm., IV. 307; Cant. Act Bk.)
