In Lake and Questier, 'Conformity and Orthodoxy in the English Church, C. 1560-1660', p.51, in T Freeman, 'Demons, Deviance and Defiance' it states that “John Deacon, a clergyman since 1568 and already with a benefice in Leicestershire, managed to secure the curacy at Bawtry in 1594 and Scrooby in north Nottinghamshire 1598. This may refer to this John Deacon.
