Ord. deacon (Exeter) 1831; priest, 1833; R. of St Endellion, Cornwall, 1833-79. Many anecdotes of Pa'son Hocken are related in St Endellion Prebendal Church, by the Rev. Thomas Taylor (1929). He is said to have been the son of a blacksmith at St Teath. Lord Brougham became interested in him, sent him to Cambridge and then presented him to St Endellion. He spent some months as a gardener at the Tuileries in Paris to learn the secrets of rose growing. Married. Died Nov. 28, 1879, aged 73, at Endellion. M.I. (Boase, Biblio. Cornub., III. 1232; Coll.
