Only such name at the time at New College was son of William of Oxford, p.p. NEW matric. 16 Nov. 1666 aged 18; possibly bar at law Middle Temple 1679, secretary to the Bishop of Gloucester; father of William 1687. See Foster Judges and Barristers
The fact that he is described as a minor canon at Gloucester cathedral on one of his ordination records and in Foster as Secretary to the bishop, and that his curacies were in the middle of Gloucester and on the close edges of this city make it possible that he was qualified as a lawyer
