' Matric. from Exeter College, Oxford, Feb. 16, 1771, age 18; B.A. (Oxford) 1775. Ord. deacon (Exeter) Nov. 20, 1774; priest, Sept. 22, 1776; V. of St Cleer, Cornwall, 1776-1844. R. of St Gerrans, 1785-1806. R. of St Ives, 1806-44. Married Joanna, dau. and co-heiress of Christopher Saltren, of Tredulick, Cornwall. Died Jan. 18, 1844, aged 92, at St Cleer. His s. John was C. of St Ives, 1810-14, but burst a blood vessel in 1814, and went to Lisbon for his health, dying there Apr. 2, 1815. His spirit was said to have haunted St Cleer church and vicarage until his father, unable to get rid of him altogether, consented to his remaining in the shape of a spider and gave him as a hiding place a crevice in the mantelpiece.
