Note he is called 'James' not 'Joseph' in the ordination records.
Phiper died in 1644 "and was buried at St Mary's, Lincoln, after he had surfeited himself with journeys into Scotland for the covenant and helped to set the country on fire."(Lincolnshire Archives, Bassingham Par 4/1 Tithe book). He was buried on 15 Aug 1644, General Register of St Mary le Wigford, Lincoln.
After Phiper's death Corpus Christi, Oxford presented George Stratford (CCED Person ID 17197), their Vice-President to Bassingham. He was deprived 21 July 1646, and Christopher Reade, a cobbler's son from Sleaford, who had been an army chaplain, was then appointed.
