  Query this person: the record for Withington, Gloucs. shows the death of 'unknown'; in 1584 and the institution of a new rector, (Atkins) on the same date. From 1593 it might be thought that this was another Thomas Knowles, but there is no trace of a second MA in Foster or Venn; the writing of the VCH describing Thomas Knowles as an argumentative and neglectful rector speaks of him as if this were just one man; hence this entry left as it is below until it can be proved otherwise.
